Don’t trust the  factory-set pitch on the sleeve of each oar. Check them all
Don’t trust the rigger. Flexing can reduce pitch [ That first stroke of a start, the ‘bullock ‘ goes deep ]
Gate face and sleeve face MUST be flat [ no rolling ]  Always check for good seating when pitching 

Rowing has a cultured belief that it is, too hard,  one has to be a special breed , mad  and a big commitment.
